Diggs earned the Bronze Star Medal, two Purple Hearts for combat wounds, two Valorous Unit Awards, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Campaign stars as an Artillery Lieutenant in Vietnam during 1971. He served as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer and Battery Executive Officer. His military action was profiled this year in the book "Soldiering On in a Dying War" by William J. Shkurti, University of Kansas Press.
