Biography:
Anita graduated Mayflower High School in 1978 and began her further education that included a BS Degree from the University of Arkansas and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Webster University. In addition to furthering her education she began her military career by enlisting in the Arkansas Army National Guard in 1979. Anita served in a variety of assignments that demanded skill and a strong attitude of responsibility. A record of accomplishments led to promotion to Sergeant First Class and the desire to continue to advance her career. Anita graduated from the Arkansas Military Academy Officer Candidate School in 1989 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and assigned to the 212th Signal Battalion. Anita served as an officer in a variety of full time and traditional command and staff assignments. Military education acheivments include Basic and Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer School, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and Command and General Staff College. Awards and Decorations include, The Legion of Merit, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 2 Army Commendation Medals, 2 Army Achievement Medals, 3 Army Good Conduct Medals, 3 Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, 2 National Defense Service Medals, Global War on Terrotism Service Medal, 2 Arkansas Commendation Medals, 6 Arkansas Service Ribbons, and the Arkansas National Guard General Staff Badge. Anita was promoted to Colonel in December of 2010. Anita's last assignment was serving as Chair of the Regional and National Resources Advisory Councils, retiring in March of 2013 with 33 years of servive. In 2015 Anita was selected for the position of Military and Veterans' Liaison for US Senator John Boozman. This huge responsibility encompassed working with the State VA Medical Centers and local clinics around the state that serve Veterans, and the National Cemeteries. Anita worked tireless in all of these areas where there is never a day that a person could say they were caught up on all the work.Anita worked with the Library of Congress Veterans History Project that recorded interviews of Arkansas Veterans to preserve their military experiences. Today, Anita is a serving Board Member of the Arkansas Military Veterans' Hall of Fame, she is the second female inductee to the Hall of Fame, Class of 2018.
